Las Vegas, not all about gambling…..

April 11th, 2008

Posted by in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Although gambling is what Vegas is known for it is not all there is. Las Vegas is not all about "Sin City". There is almost more non gambling activity as there is gambling. There are shows, tours, music, shopping, and the best of all people watching. People watching is a show in itself in Las Vegas.

Even if You come to Las Vegas for gambling, You can’t do it day and night. Las Vegas is a hub of all things found in the south west. Five hours from the pacific ocean, the deserts of the southwest, the canyon lands of the west, the mountains in all directions.

Some of the best tours start in Vegas. From large groups to singles there are endless tours to enjoy. For more on this visit Vegas-charters.com and see the possibilities……

Before long the streets will again be lined with endless crowds of people. From what I hear this year due to easement  on Visa requirements the Chinese may be coming to Vegas in record numbers. If You are planning a large group trip to Las Vegas or the Southwest one of Your requirements will be mass transportation. Moving large numbers of people in a group can be a stressful chore to solve. We at regent holiday’s can take the stress out of at least that aspect of Your planned Vegas trip.

Elvis and Las Vegas (pic of last concert)

elvis last concert 1977 Ind.

This is said to be a picture of Elvis at his last concert in 26 June 1977 in Indiana.

Elvis had a long History with Las Vegas. Starting in the mid 50’s where He for all popular accounts flopped because his fan base were not old enough to come to Vegas. Not till his good friend Liberace talked him into coming back , going so far as designing his now famous jump suit with cape, did Elvis return in 1968 performing at what was than the International (now the Hilton)

You can still find some old haunts Elvis visited like the The wedding chapel now on the south end of the strip where the wedding scene from Viva Las Vegas was filmed and Piero’s Italian restaurant said to be the only place Elvis ate at outside His penthouse at the Hilton.

The old Vegas?  Much like computers and electronics today, It’s old news  tomorrow. Changing so fast You can’t keep up.

Vegas is growing with no end in sight.

The number of people visiting Las Vegas in 2007 has inched up 0.7 percent to a record39.2 million.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said the figure is the fourth consecutive annual record. The increase comes as hotel room inventory rose just 0.2 percent to 132,947.

Authority spokesman Jeremy Handel said that might have restricted the number of visitors.Handel said, “We didn’t add the space to put more people.”Hotel occupancy also was at a record 90.4 percent, tying the previous high set in 1996.

The authority expects Las Vegas to add some 40,000 hotel rooms by 2012, including 9,000 this year. It’s aiming to increase the visitor count this year by 1.5 percent to39.8 million people. [source: KVBC ]

In Vegas tomorrow?,NASCAR on the strip…..

The world-famous Las Vegas Strip, through the years, has seen it all.  It’s been the site of Evel Knievel’s death-defying motorcycle jumps, attracted thousands of New Year’s Eve revelers and served as the backdrop for hundreds of movies.

And on Thursday, Feb. 28, a new spectacle will take place on one of the world’s most famous streets.

The colorful NASCAR team haulers, transporting the Sprint Cup race cars that will compete later that week, will parade north on the Strip among the world’s most well-known hotels and casinos.

“During the week of the NASCAR event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, this entire town becomes NASCAR crazy,” said Chris Powell, LVMS general manager. “Every opportunity we get to take NASCAR to the Strip is something special. Parades of any kind are very rare on the Strip, so we are very appreciative of the support from the various public agencies that have helped make this happen.”

The transporters will be staged at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the right lane of Las Vegas Boulevard just south of Russell Road. Once all trucks are lined up, the haulers will move north using the middle lane of northbound Las Vegas Boulevard. The haulers will proceed the roughly five miles to Sahara Avenue before returning to Interstate 15 and the short ride north to the speedway.

“Las Vegas has become a NASCAR town,” said Rossi Ralenkotter, president of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “Every year, the speedway hosts sold- out events for its NASCAR Weekend. Our community embraces NASCAR, its teams and its fans like no other area in the western USA. [FULL STORY]
